Occupational First Aid
Overview:
This course addresses the establishment and maintenance of facilities to enable or facilitate the provision of appropriate first aid in workplace and with the provision of advanced first aid response, life support, management of casualty(s), the incident and other first aiders, until the arrival of medical or other assistance, and provision of support to other providers.
This course is made up of three separate units which put together provides the knowledge necessary for an occupational first aider. The course will also provide information on state and federal legislations as it applies to workplace first aid. Current industry standard is for this course to be updated every 3 years with the Advanced Resuscitation component being updated every 12 months.

Course Content:

Duration
Option 1: 30 hours (4 days) classroom training and assessment
Option 2: Mixed mode – 22 hours (3 days) classroom training and assessment combined with
completion of a workbook.
Who Should Attend
First aiders who have the responsibility for maintaining a first aid room in the workplace.

Students must be 16 years or older

Training Methods:
The course will be presented by group discussion, role plays, video, syndicate exercise, action plan development, case studies, practical exercises, lecture and report writing. The course is interactive and practical.
Course Assessment:
The assessment criteria for this course will be based on both informal and formal processes (as per Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF) requirements for competency based training).

Recertification:
Legislative approval valid for 3 years from the completion date. Annual refreshers recommended to maintain current CPR and advanced skills.
