BSB30307 - Certificate III in Occupational Health and Safety

Overview:

This qualification reflects the role of skilled operators who apply a broad range of competencies in varied work contexts, using some discretion and judgement and relevant theoretical knowledge.  They may provide technical advice and support to a team.  This qualification is for people whose main job is not dedicated to OHS but who take it on a s a voluntary duty..  Distance learning and Recognition of Prior Learning is offered with this course.

  • Health and Safety Committee Member

  • Health and Safety Representative.

Course Objective:         

The Certificate III in Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) aims to give participants with the underpinning knowledge of the basic role of an Occupational Health and Safety assistant.

Participants will be provided with the skills to:

  • Understand and apply OHS legislation - Consultative processes and functions of Health & Safety Representatives

  • Hazard identification, risk assessment, risk control

  • Conduct risk assessments

  • Participate in incident investigation

  • Participate in the implementation of an Occupational Health and Safety management system

Prerequisite requirements:

There are no prerequisite requirements for individual units of competency

There are no entry requirements for this qualification.

Pathways into the qualification

Preferred pathways for candidates considering this qualification include:

  • BSB20107 Certificate II in Business or other relevant qualification/s

or

  • with vocational experience working in occupational health and safety roles without a formal business qualification. This breadth of expertise would equate to the competencies required to undertake this qualification.

Pathways from the Qualification

  • After achieving the BSB30707 Certificate III in OHS, participants may undertake the BSB41407 Certificate IV in OHS.

Delivery Methods

  • Distance Delivery (course undertaken remotely with tutorial support); and

  • Recognition of Prior Learning

Qualification Rules

Total number of units = 12.

7 Occupational Health & Safety Units plus 5 elective units:

At least 3 of the elective units must be selected from the elective units listed below:

The other 2 elective units may be selected from the remaining elective units listed below, the BSB07 Business Services Training Package or any other currently endorsed national Training Package.  If not listed below, 1 unit may be selected from a Certificate II qualification and 1 unit from a Certificate IV qualification.

Elective units must be relevant to the work outcome, local industry requirements and the qualification level.

Units selected from other Training Packages must not duplicate units selected from or available within the BSB07 Business Services Training Package.
