Advanced First Aid

Overview:

This unit deals with the provision of Advanced First Aid response, life support, management of casualty(s), the incident and other First Aiders, until the arrival of medical or other assistance, and provision of support to other providers.  

Unit of Competency:

HLTFA402B - Apply Advanced First Aid

Pre-/co-requisite:


Valid - Apply First Aid HLTFA301B

Nominal Duration:

21 hours

Elements:

  • Assess the situation

  • Manage the casualty(s)

  • Co-ordinate First Aid activities until arrival of medical assistance

  • Communicate essential incident details

  • Manage casualty in a remote and/or isolated area

  • Evaluate the incident

Course content:

  • assess the situation and recognise someone requiring advanced resuscitation

  • provide oxygen therapy

  • operate suction equipment

  • demonstrate correct use of AED

  • prepare and restore oxygen and AED equipment

  • use of bag and mask device and oxygen equipment

  • provide reports

Assessment Method:

Assessment is ongoing through demonstration of practical skills.

Course Award:

On successful completion of this course participants will be issued with a Statement of Attainment for the nationally recognised unit of competency from the Health Training Package, HLTFA402B - Apply Advanced First Aid.
